It Would Be Marvelous If...

...we didn't have to pay £131.50 for a colour TV license. Apparently if we only have a B&W TV, we only have to pay £44. If we are blind, we only have to pay 50% of that, but if we were deaf, there would be no discount. Additionally, if we were 75, we could apply for a free license, or if we were 74 we could get a reduced rate license.

I am checking out the TV licensing website. It'unbelievablele! They actually have "detector vans" that have sensors that drive around looking for TV sets. Can you believe that? They also don't let anybody get by with anything. Look at their "excuses" page: http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/information/excuses.jsp

The girls and I are just hanging out today. I made Steve drive himself to work. It was nice not to be in the van for an hour this morning. We walked Caleb to school. We were supposed to be leaving the house at 8:30 to have ample time to get there by 8:45, when they open the schoolyard gates. The kids line up and go inside with their teachers at 8:55. Well, we didn't get out the door until 8:45. I told Caleb we would have to "book it" to get there in time. It usually takes me 15 minutes to walk to his school with the girls in the stroller, and about 25 minutes to get home with Caleb walking. We made it in 10 minutes. Caleb hustled and didn't complain!

When he gets home from school, I'll have him talk about Sports Day and I'll type up what he says. It's always more fun to hear his words than mine, I think.

I'm going to try my hand at making some Indian food tonight. Steve is thoroughly addicted and has requested it. I'm happy to comply. And speaking of food, he made chocolate chip cookies last night. He had to do some conversions because our butter comes in kilograms and not sticks in increments of pounds. The only thing we don't have is vanilla extract. The cookies were fine anyway. We are so used to using more flour than normal because of our elevation in NM - Steve decided to use less flour next time.

Audrey and I are hanging out in my room right now since that's the only place I can use the internet. Julie is sleeping in her cot in her nice, dark room. As soon as I'm done messing around online, I'm going to call BT again and see if we can get this stupid closet phone thing straightened out.

I'm going to sign off for now so I can get some other online stuff done.

More later!
April

At least you are not an "Evader" and your story posted on the Excuses page. :)

I think the detector van is what triggered us into getting a license in NZ the last year we were there. At least our TV was about 30 yrs old so it did not cost much.

I honestly could not imagine having the job of the Enforcement Officer and keeping a straight face.

You guys should have had Nate sling you a signal over the internet but then you would need DSL to make it practical. I am not sure with the phone service it would have been worthwhile. ;) We get the BBC here on the Dish.

I think the Supersonic one is a hoot.

Oh my mistake. Gwen says that the TV police found out we had a TV and left us a note saying we needed to get a license. I had not realized.

So we were busted! ;) How fun. Hehe.
