Is A Mis-Adventure on the Bus Still Marvelous?

Today at 11:38 I got a phone call - Audrey had a fever of 39 C. I had no clue what that was - Val, the teacher, said that they sent a little girl home yesterday when her fever "spiked at 40, but don't worry because Audrey is only at 39." Huh? So they asked if they could give her a dose of Cal-Pol (their version of Baby Tylenol or Baby Advil - I can't figure out which it is) to lower her fever and make her feel better.

Turns out it's over 102. So I hop on the bus to go get her.

I get there and she's asleep. She didn't want lunch, but wanted to lay down. She had been asleep for about 20 minutes by the time I got there. I felt awful for her because we were afoot today and she had to walk to the bus stop.

So we get about halfway to the bus stop and she says she can't walk. I had anticipated this about 10 minutes earlier, but alas, not while I was at home and could bring either 2 strollers or the front pack for Julie. I get Julie out of the stroller and let Audrey sit while I push one-handed. Thankfully we were going down a slight hill, so all I had to do was steer.

We get to the bus stop and wait for about 5 minutes for our bus. It pulls up and the driver tells me something no other driver has: I have to fold up the stroller because there's no room. O-kaaaay. What a hassle! I can't fold up the stroller since I have an infant, a sick preschooler, and all sorts of junk in the basket of the stroller but no big bag to put it in so that I can fold up the stroller. So I say I'll wait for the next bus, knowing that another bus from a different route will be by in 7 minutes. I've ridden this other bus before (#28) and know that it shares a stop with the bus that just pulled out (#33). So we get on the 28. It goes down the familiar roads but takes unfamiliar turns - no big deal. I still know where we are.

Uh-oh.

I know where we are. I got us on a bus going the wrong way. We're heading into Reading - what a pain. So I push the "stop" button and get off ASAP. We hike across the street just in time to catch the 17 back into Tilehurst. Get to the right stop (shared with the 33 and the 28 going in the OTHER direction), get home. By this time Audrey is fully awake and in a great mood.

Misadventure, but mild.

Sorry to hear Audey was not feeling well. Sounds like you did some good thinking on your feet so to speak with the buses. Good job Mum.

Yep. Just Remember

35C = 95F and 40C = 104F.

Anything in between is a toss up. But I remember these silly limits for some reason. :)

I forget but I think 37C = 98.6F which is normal?

39c=102.2f

Steve downloaded a converter several weeks ago because he needed to make some chocolate chip cookies and needed some conversion information. It's cool because it's got just about every unit of measure, so I can do temps, too.

So when I did the conversion and discovered that "just 39" was actually over 102, I stepped up my schedule to get over there.

98.6F = 37C on the nose...no decimal places there. She's fine now - no fever, but supposedly she'll have 2 days of fever followed by a "heavy cold."

DB - supposedly you can post now from Blogger into Blogger Beta - have you tried yet?

Here goes using my account.

I remember why I remember those marks.
It is a 5C to 9F ratio between those two points and
that puts them exactly on the mark..as integers.

Hmmm must be my subconscious (spell) working.

That was vague wasn't it...the
5C to 9F ratio had to do with...

F = 9/5 C +32

And the 40-35=5C and 104-95=9F

Well I guess the beta and the older blogger are working together now. :)

Thanks for letting me know April.
