Walt and John - Day 2
The babies are improving!
Both boys' blood pressure meds have been lowered and Walt's blood gases and blood sugar levels are looking good. Both little fellas are receiving insulin as part of their regular nutrition IV right now. They will also soon receive some meds to help their lungs develop. Aaron said it's a surfactant to help alleviate the stickiness that's natural when they're born. John is still going strong (Laura commented yesterday after watching him moving in his sleep that he was making the "Sic 'em Bears" motion) and Walt is catching up with his younger brother.
Mom told me this morning that the nurses assigned to each child stay right by their beds and are constantly working and doing things to and for the boys. The nurses are happy to explain what's going on to the boys' visitors as they're working. Mom is very impressed with the hospital and its staff. The phrase "world-class" was mentioned. She said there are about 20 babies total in the Neonatal ICU and speculated that most of them were airlifted there from who-knows-where.
Laura's folks made it in yesterday and also got to visit the boys. Dad is back in Bryan, but will go back tomorrow. I want to be there so badly to hug on Aaron, Laura, and my mom and to see my nephews. I finished their hats yesterday and will get them in the mail today. I'm going to work now on booties. The nurses said hats and booties are welcomed.
