Geez, What's My Damage?
As you may or may not be able to tell from the title, I'm still in a funk. I don't know what my problem is. I'm cranky.
I take it back - I *do* know what my problem is. I have 2 problems:
1 - I didn't run today
2 - It's summer
I think if I go longer than 48 hours without a run I get seriously grumpy. I opted to skip my morning run because I had a rough night last night with Julie. I ended up letting her get in bed with us around 2 a.m. because I couldn't stay awake with her. I'll try better next time. Another factor in my decision to skip was my dentist appointment at 7:30 this morning. I'm already itching for a run. Maybe later tonight after Steve gets home. We'll see.
I'm ready for the kids to go back to school. This broken collarbone has put a serious crimp on our summer schedule. No pool time because of the break means more time for me to keep the kids busy/entertained/out of trouble. It's frustrating. I got spoiled during that week with no kids and it's been harder than past years getting back into a routine. Two more weeks.
On a lighter note, the kids finally were able to buy their pet fish last night. We got 3 mollies - Julie got a black one (named Molly), Audrey got a silver lyretail (named Silverella), and Caleb got a dalmation lyretail (named Fishzilla). Here's a picture of the aquarium.
Yes, it's blurry, but I can't get a decent picture with the flash on. You can see Fishzilla and Silverella front and center (they are called lyretails because of the shape of their tails as you can see here), but you can also see the decorations the kids chose - Caleb picked Spongebob and Audrey picked the hot pink plant. Big surprise there, right? You can see Molly's tail near the top of the water just inside the plant frond on the far left. See her? She likes to hang out over there in that corner.
Before we went to the fish store last night, we finished up school shopping. Including a new pair of tennies from Target for Caleb and some new socks for him and new undies for Audrey, we spent over $110 on school supplies. And we didn't even buy their new backpacks - thanks Nana and dc for those! Audrey was the only one who got a new lunchbox and it wasn't included in the total, either. I actually had to buy disinfectant wipes for Caleb's classroom, along with a set of dry erase markers. I guess I shouldn't mind stocking the classroom, but I'm used to the less expensive stuff like pencils and glue sticks.
I let the kids play in the sprinkler today. Caused lots of muddy mess - especially when the kids started dragging their towels through the sodden yard. Lovely.
Julie smells. I need to go tend to her.

Boy, do I understand about being in a funk. It's no fun. I hope the run helped you back out of it. I bet it's hard not going to the pool when the kids enjoyed it so much and it made for a fun change in the afternoon routine. Bummer. I can't believe it's just 2 weeks til school starts! The fish look great!
