Are You Ready For This Announcement?

NO, I'm not pregnant.

I'm going to run in a 10K at the end of August. I originally thought I would do a 5K, but then I realized that I run the equivalent of a 5K when I run. Why not challenge myself?

I'm actually a bit scared.

Thanks to the wonders of modern technology (from Nike and Apple), I now have new gadgets for running. There's a little thing that goes in my shoe (on the tongue) to measure how far/fast I go and a receiver that plugs into my iPod nano so that when I come home, my info is uploaded to the Nike+ website.

All that to say - I'm going to run all by my lonesome here in White Rock on August 31 (a Sunday morning before church) while thousands of others are running their 10K races around the world. That was always my problem - there aren't that many 5K or 10K races up here and I didn't want to go to Albuquerque to run. My trusty gadgets will capture my time and when I get it all uploaded, I will have officially run a 10K. 6.2 miles. Wow. Can you believe it?

So my training is stepping up for the next few weeks. I have 25 days. I'm not worried. I've already mapped out my route thanks to Google maps and it's all roads I've run before. I'm even going to download two new albums from iTunes for my training and the run.

Yikes!

On another note, I take Audrey back to the doctor in about an hour to recheck her collarbone. Hopefully she's healed enough to get rid of the sling and we can go to the pool this afternoon. We will see.

A 10K is no easy thing. I used to play at running in college and I remember a 10K kicking my sorry little self around the block! It was in Vermont when I began my Master's in Spanish at Middlebury. We actually ran a cross country ski course. Needless to say, I learned how out of shape I really was! I am very proud of your dedication and hard work. You're a much stronger gal than I!
