Marvelous News
This afternoon Steve forwarded the link from the travel office for his itinerary. I was looking at the reservations for the minivans (one for the L.A. to Abq trip, the other for our time in the U.K.) and was pleasantly surprised...
They got us an automatic!
Some of you know that this was the thing causing me the largest amount of anxiety regarding our trip to England. I can't drive a stick shift. Well, I can, but it's not pretty, nor is it comfortable. I'm nervous enough about driving on the left side of the road, but to add having to think about shifting on top of that was really causing me some indigestion. Apparently the pedals are in the same positions (clutch on the far L, brake in the middle, gas on the R), but the gearshift is on the left side instead of the right, since the steering wheel is on the right side instead of the left.
I was so happy to see this bit of information! I have been working under the assumption that the van was a manual transmission, since that's what Steve told me.
On another travel-related note, I am almost ready to start packing. Finally. I had to get everything clean and put away before I could drag most of it out again to take with us. Not everything is put away - I have lots of clean and folded laundry in my bedroom, but Julie is napping peacefully in there, so that room is OFF LIMITS for now. Which is fine with me. I don't like putting laundry away.
Tomorrow is my sweeping/mopping/dusting/vacuuming day. And I guess I'll put away the clean laundry. We are going to Alamosa, Colorado, for the evening. My grandmother (Gigi) lives there and my parents are up there visiting her. She hasn't met the little Jujube yet. We'll spend the night, then my parents will caravan back here with us. Dad will head home on Tuesday, and Mom will go with us to England. I wanted "man on man coverage" on the airplane - one adult for every one non-adult. Now we just have to figure out how to get the 6 of us, our 8 suitcases, plus Mom's luggage, plus whatever carry on bags we have into the rental minivan to get to Albuquerque.
I'm signing off now. It's 5:20 and I guess I should start thinking about dinner. Actually, it's 17:20. I need to get used to that darn 24-hour system. It drives me nuts, but that's what they do over there.

To help yourself out on International time then why not set your "format" to use it as the "timestamp" for your blog? Also you can set the date to be day/month/year instead of month/day/year? As in Rome.... :)
Automatics? That is no fun.
Remember the blinker (indicator) is usually on the right handside of the stearing wheel and the windshield (windscreen) wipers will then be on the lefthand side.
The boot and the bonnet are in the same place though. ;) Hehe.
So you will have to put a clock counting down y'alls return once
you get there. :)
We are going to miss y'all bunches. )-,,,,:
But go enjoy and make some great memories. We are excuted for y'all.
