Run Completed

I did it. I did the 10K. I was so nervous on Saturday night that I actually had butterflies in my stomach. I don't know why I was nervous - it wasn't like I was going to be in front of people while I ran. Maybe just jitters for the first race.

Anyway, here's the breakdown:

Got up at 5:15 a.m., ate a big breakfast, had some coffee.

Left the house at 6:00 a.m. but had to come back in to get a visor - it was sprinkling. I've not run in the rain before. So that was a new experience. It rained for the first 2+ miles, stopped, then spit again at 3.5 and 4.5 miles. All in all, not too bad - the rain helped keep me cool and it was never enough to make problems. The only issue I had was drops on my glasses. But as I ran, the drops either evaporated or ran off the bottom edge of my glasses.

I usually do a walk-run thing: run for 2 minutes, walk for 1. But yesterday I decided I was going to just run as much as I could. I took 5 walk breaks along the route, none longer than a minute, and the first one came after I had been running for 25 minutes. I was pretty proud of that.

So the whole 6.23 miles (.02 longer than a 10K - oh well) took me 1 hour, 8 minutes, and 45 seconds. My pace was 11:01 minutes/mile. Much better than I've been doing.

Today I'm feeling it, though. My hip flexors are very sore. I was supposed to start a new training program today for a half-marathon (13+ miles) but I think I'll start Wednesday. I need to let this body recuperate.

So to recuperate, we're going to clean house today. We have visitors coming tomorrow - brother, sis-in-law, and BABY TWINS. YAY!!!
