The Kids Thought Halloween Was Marvelous
I thought it was lame. We waited until after dark (5.15), then waited some more to make sure other people were trick-or-treating. Finally at 6.00, I took the kids out because I saw ONE mom with her kid. In a nutshell, we went to maybe 12 houses in the span of 45 minutes. Steve and Julie stayed at the house because he was sick and she was asleep. He said that there were maybe 12-15 trick-or-treaters that came by. We have a lot of gummi bears left. But that's ok.
I learned from one of Caleb's teachers (who we chanced to encounter just after we left the house) that the "go ahead" signal for trick-or-treaters over here is a jack-o-lantern in the window. Not the porch light on, like at home. Hmmm. Different. Good thing Steve had let the kids carve one, I guess. It was on the front porch when we left home.
We didn't encounter but maybe 5 other trick-or-treaters. The other costumes were all spooky scary ones - not cutsey ones like my kids. Oh well.
I'm going to go now. It's waaay after my lunch and I'm hungry!

If the kids enjoyed halloween, then it was a good holiday.
By the way, in France, french fries are "pommes frites," which means "fried potatoes."
"pommes frites" is a bit ironic since the Aussies and Kiwi call folks from Britian "pommy", "pom", or "pome". It is a derogatory term Englishman.
Interesting.

So sorry to hear about you all being so sick after we left.
Really do hope all of you are feeling better and catching up on some rest. When we were there, there wasn't to much time to take a breather between trips!!
As I read the blog, I am having a hard time imagine that we were all involved in such "a Chevy Chase enactment of a European vacation!"
Cecil just doesn't have a clue of what he missed not being with us!
Thank you so much for such a wonderful time during our stay and for all of the beautiful memories that were shared throughout our journeys to such amazing places.
I am really glad that Caleb is making friends with Kyle and hopefully, their relationship will bond into a really neat friendship.
Please let me know if you got the package from UPS that I sent last week. It is insured and really important info. for the Baldridges.
